Twenty five years ago
we were expecting our first child.
My husband traveled ALOT,
he managed several cities in the north east.
Lots of planes and little time for us.
On Valentines Day 1986
while on his way to airport in NYC
he thought he would have his cab stop
at Tiffany's and pickup a small Valentine gift
that he had seen advertised in the morning newspaper.
Oh so Original!
Much to his surprise...
hundreds of other men had the same idea.
He needed to make his flight so he had to abandon his plan.
He didn't even have time to stop for a Sweet Treat.
NOW THE PANIC SETS IN
He is sitting on the plane that is due to arrive early evening
and he is empty handed.
(Honestly, I didn't have my heart set on a gift)
Quick thinking:
He pulls out his 1986 style laptop...
graph paper.
He writes me a letter,
a letter reviewing the past year
and dreams of the year to come.
I am sure he didn't think it would be
one of the most treasured gifts I have EVER received.
I cherish that letter and the 23 that followed.
Each Valentine's Day my husband
writes me a letter that comes from his heart.
The next year he wrote 2 Love Letters,
one for me and one for our daughter.
This year he has 3 letters to write,
we are expecting our first grandchild,
a little girl that will hopefully
have many Love Letters to come
from her loving grandpa.
Wishing you LOT OF LOVE on this Valentines Day.
Enjoy!

That is so sweet - how lucky you have been. I agree that is the most precious gift. We don't always remember things, but we remember words. Nothing is more meaningful.
Happy Valentine's Day,
Sharon

What a wonderful tradition Kelley!
I so enjoyed reading this.
Kelley, obviously I'm late arriving to read this lovely post, but just have to comment. This is truly the best valentine there is. My husband has written me few notes, but I've saved and cherished each one. It's the little things such as this that make the most lasting gifts. How fortunate to have a sweet, loving man who will take the time and thought to write these. Even more wonderful to carry the tradition on with a new grandchild.
Hope all is well in your world. Your's is one of my favorite blogs. ~ Sarah
