The Real Value of Gold

This week I have been playing with my camera taking photos for shades of inspiration and this week the color is GOLD! Such a valuable color, we have all heard about the price of gold going higher and higher. So I started looking for anything gold to have the very amateur photographer (ME) take a pic of it.
A sweet angel box my mother gave me

I understand the function of "real" gold in our economy . What does "real" gold represent, often it is made into beautiful gold jewelry which usually is given with great love and meaning. It also can represent wealth and security. However most of our pocket books can't justify 24 karat gold so other metals and paints are wonderful substitutes, however the actual monetary value is much lower than gold.

A birthday gift from a favorite friend

Through the process of gold hunting in my house I found that I have a few real gold pieces and many not so real gold pieces. As I photographed each piece it told me a story and often took me down memory lane. I found the real value of gold is a great story teller, a tangible item of times and loved ones here and gone. I leave you with some of my greatest treasures. As they say (who are they, oh that's a whole other post) PRICELESS.!

This was my grandmother's, truly a treasured piece

Buttons from a outfit I just loved but it has out lived it's fashion life, the HUGE SHOULDER PADS and HUGE LAPELS just don't cut it anymore but I can still remember how great I felt when I wore it just by keeping the buttons.

This little froggie jumped into my life on my last birthday, I guarantee he is here to stay

This silly little vintage brooch caught my eye because I used to have a Russian Wolfhound, a tiny little reminder of a giant silly dog

Please check back next week I have a couple of fun summer projects to share with you and I am finishing a couple of Mosaic Cakes over the weekend and will be putting them in my esty shop. Have a great weekend!!!!

Please tell me about your busy day.

This is my favorite saying. I found it painted in a little frame in 1993. Every morning I look at it and am reminded to slow down and to find out what others are doing. In fact I had it stenciled on the soffett in my kitchen.

Let's take a little of that advice and sit and enjoy one anothers company. Now that the cake is finished it's time for a little summer get together. Let's enjoy the lazy days of summer together over a glass of lemonade or a spot of tea this afternoon.

It's a BEAUTIFUL day, the type that you long for in the middle of January.

Invite your favorite friends.

Pull up a chair and get comfy.

Now what would you like to drink? I have several choices...

Geranium Lemonade, I have heard that it makes you bloom to your greatest potential.

Or a spot of Ranculus Tea? Iced perhaps?

Or a glass of refreshing SILLY LILYADE, one of my favorites. It's rumored to start the giggles with just one sip.

And there is always Rose Petal Lemonade...

that makes it possible to see life through rose colored glasses

Whatever your choice, sit down and ask a friend about their busy day and you will be surprised how refreshing it can be.

Enjoy!

Finally Finished!

BUNNY LOVE CAKE

I am sooooooooooooooooo guilty of starting a project because I am so excited about the idea and then I lose interest and start another "brilliant" project.

Well I have finally finished the BUNNY LOVE CAKE and I am so happy with it. Since I had never done or known anyone who had made a mosaic cake before it presented many challenges, every time I would get frustrated I would leave and go to something I was much more versed at. Actually I have 5 mosaic cakes stuck in one stage or another. OH MY I have admitted it, now I must finish them! But I am once again excited about them since I am happy with the final outcome so off to the crafts barn I go to make my cakes.

A baker I'm not so I will stick to making and not baking cakes!

Enjoy!

Calling Dr. CrEaTIVe!!!!!

I AM A CREATIVE MESS!

Last week seemed like a lost week of creativity. So many things to do during the summer, not to say I didn't enjoy last week but I did and do miss the creative process. Usually I lay awake dreaming up new projects but I must have hit CREATIVE BLOCK, YIKES...I can't imagine!

So I am calling Dr. Creative STAT! Who is Dr. Creative? It's you! All my blog land friends can jump start me with just one sentence, how cool is that? I want to thank so many of you that share your creative lives and inspire so many of us when we hit a rut, and I bet you don't even know it. Sometimes I post and I think does this really matter to anyone and then I receive comments that make my day. So keep sharing and posting I am off to visit all the wonderful Dr. Creatives. Check back and see if I have been cured.

I did submit photos to the Shades of Inspiration last week the color was brown. I thought I would share a few.

A Mosaic piece I made and named STEAMING TEACUPS

Tiles I found at a sale and just couldn't resist...now the question, what am I going to do with these?

Pheasant Feathers. Who but Mother Nature could make something so beautiful?

Leaving you with Mother Nature's Freckles.

See You Creatively SOON!

Enjoy!

After the Holi-DAZE

The 4th of July has come and gone. Does that really mean summer is half over ....please, please, NO! It seems like it just arrived. We were very fortunate to enjoy so many friends and family over the 4th! Now it's time to visit all my friends in blogland and tell you I am very behind in all the things I want to tell you.

I was presented with my first award from Mya about Creative Musings with Mya, a fellow Michigander. She is one talented lady! Visit her blog and I guarantee you will be happy you did!

THANK YOU SO MUCH MYA! You truly have made me feel very special.

ARTE Y PICO AWARD!

How does this award work?

1. You have to pick 5 blogs that you consider deserving of this award for their creativity, design, interesting material, and also contribute to the blogging community, no matter what language
2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog to be visited by everyone. 3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name of and link to the blog that presented her/him with the award.4. The award winner and one who has given the prize have to show the link of "Arte y Pico" blog so everyone will know the origin of this award. Now comes the hard part. Choosing the five that inspire me.

Now I have the opportunity to pass this award on to my deserving fellow bloggers. They are:

Pam Warden at Pam Warden Art. Pam has just given birth to her new blog and it is a beautiful baby girl.

Joanne Kennedy at My Little Cottage in the Making. She is having a A Christmas In July Give Away for all of us to participate in, OH HOW FUN! I also want to mention she made me look very shiny at a 4th Picnic by making her Chocolate Covered Strawberries, YUM!

Kay Ellen at Kay Ellen Designs. She is fabulous interior decorator and a great photographer, she will leave you feeling great every time.

Ceekay at Thinkin of Home. This lady always makes me smile be it from the lovely comments she leaves to her great posts.

Patty at On The Way. This is an unconventional blog for an award because SHE DOESN'T HAVE A BLOG. Now let me tell you this is a real shame! She is the bright daisy in my Mad Hatters Tea Party Post. Although I must tell you she outshines any daisy in the garden, she is talented is so many ways and she is genius when it comes to knitting. She has been my own little cheerleader in blogland so now is the time...Start that blog so we all can meet you!!!

If you like leave a comment for her here and she will see it.

Thanks to all of you ladies for sharing so much of your talent, humor and lives with all of us!

Now let's find out who is the lucky June Give Away Winner is !!!!!!!

Diana Lyn from Candles From the Heart Congratulations!

Happy to be back in Blogland!
